About Me
Hey ya'll! I'm Leeann Riggins Kelley, and I'm the academic advisor for biology and environmental science undergraduates at Georgia College. I first came to Georgia College in 2006 after transferring from ABAC. Readjusting was a challenge at first, but once I got acclimated- GCSU and Milledgeville just stole my heart! As an undergrad, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and pondered every preprofessional track available. All I knew was that I had to combine my 2 passions: People and Biology. In 2008, I graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Biology adding an emphasis in cell and molecular biology. After graduation, I enrolled in the Master’s program at Georgia College and took every physiology class I could. I still had no earthly idea what I wanted to do for a living, but this time, boy howdy, I figured it out! Serving as a Teaching Assistant for Bioldiversity and Principles of Biology 1 lab classes opened my eyes to the world of higher education. I. Loved. It. During my time at GCSU, I also got loads of firsthand experience in research. I worked in Dr. Bachoon's microbial ecology lab detecting human fecal contamination in freshwater sources, and I worked with Dr. Toney researching endocrine disruptors and their effects on perinatal development. Upon finishing my Master's, I returned to ABAC as a biology instructor where I taught Principles of Biology 1 and Anatomy and Physiology, and it was a fantastic opportunity. Coming up with weird and quirky ways of breaking down and explaining complex information is kind of my *thing*. Now I am back at my good old alma mater and armed with more experience and insight to offer my students . My goal is to help my students feel the same satisfaction and sense of acheivement in their educational experience as I felt in mine. Let the good times roll!
